Hello, My name is Drew and thanks for stopping by my website. I am currently writing this section, so if you find yourself here, please excuse its lack of content and depth! I am teaching Drawing i-2 and Sculpture at South High in Minneapolis! I love my job and the students at South are amazing! Go Tigers!
My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in my belief that creativity is an essential human need and that one of the most important parts of a meaningful and happy life is the ability to have a creative outlet. Whether it's through cooking, gardening, art making, or through our family and friends - the feelings of well being made possible through artistic expression is foundational to our humanity. Too many adults I've met believe they can't 'do art', and it's one of my goals as an educator to prevent this belief from occuring in all of my students. I want to focus on the joy of creation and process, and instill a sense that art is for everyone, at any stage, and for the rest of our lives. Art history, technology, and the relevance of art in culture and society is another one of my leading passions. Connecting students, through their own interests to topics in art history or movements is central to my curriculum.
